History

From its 2017 founding in Williamson County to performances on international stages, Williamson Choral Society continues to grow while carrying forward the fellowship, artistic ambition, and joy at the heart of its beginnings.

Our History

Williamson Choral Society, Inc. was founded in 2017 by Dr. Linda Bolding under the name Williamson County Community Chorus. Supported and overseen by Williamson County Parks and Recreation, the choir grew quickly under Dr. Bolding’s leadership, which continued through 2022. The inaugural concert in December of 2017 featured 60 singers, including 17 who still perform with the choir today. In 2023, Karen Mabry Lewis stepped into the role of conductor and has continued to guide the choir’s growth and artistic success.

In January 2026, the choir officially transitioned to a 501(c)(3) organization, opening new opportunities for branding, programming, fundraising, and community outreach. At that time, the ensemble adopted its new name—Williamson Choral Society—while maintaining the same mission and spirit that shaped its early years. The new name honors both the founding group and the choir’s ongoing connection to Williamson County. With independence comes added responsibility, but it also provides the autonomy to make organizational decisions and raise the operating funds needed to support future growth.

Our Vision for the Future

The Williamson Choral Society is committed to expanding its vocal footprint by seeking opportunities to perform beyond Williamson County, strengthening musicianship, building connections, and fostering fellowship with other choirs. In 2020, the choir performed John Rutter’s Requiem at Carnegie Hall. In May 2025, nearly half of the choir traveled to London to participate in the European debut of Requiem for Colour by Dr. Jeffrey Ames, Director of Choral Studies at Belmont University

As the choir looks ahead, the Williamson Choral Society remains dedicated to sharing the joy of choral music, investing in its community, and pursuing new opportunities for engagement, collaboration, and artistic growth.
